Sarah Skelding was born and raised in Montpelier, Vermont. She graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a BA in philosophy, and briefly lived in Oregon before returning to Vermont in 2011. She has worked on farms in Lamoille County for the past 13 years, with a focus on growing fruit trees, berry bushes, native plants, and nursery stock.
