Forest School
Mud City Forest School | Fall 2026 ~ Mushrooms and Mysteries
A once-a-week full-day program entirely outdoors at the beautiful Lamoille County Nature Center located in Morristown, VT for youth aged 7 and up.
We acknowledge that this land is the traditional land of the Nulhegan Band of the Coosuk Abenaki Nation.
Mushroom and Mysteries, our fall offering, will combine two different learning paths: the study of mycology (mushrooms) and their place in the ecosystem. (Please note: we will not be consuming wild mushrooms.) We will learn to identify mushrooms and discover the hidden world of mycelium that lives underground. We will also be exploring mysteries in many forms: natures mysteries, riddles, treasure hunts, codes, symbology, and mystery games.
In addition to daily nature study, sit spot, cooking, games, and hiking, youth will be working on our their theme-based cumulative projects. These projects will include elements of both mushrooms and mysteries. Projects are choice-based , and blend art, science, and creative problem solving.
Mud City Forest School actively and mindfully builds community and trust with each other, and with the world around us. We aim to give more than we take, and leave the space better than we found it. Youth will be challenged to think deeply about respect, reciprocity and the way our actions impact those around us. We foster joy, curiosity, and friendship. We can't wait to see you this fall!

Each day consists of outdoor skills such as fire-building, forest safety, weather prediction, cooking, and quiet observation. We also incorporate storytelling, puzzles, and free play in nature. Youth use problem-solving skills to build fort structures, cut new trails, and work together. We use movement games to learn about Vermont’s ecology and wildlife and how animals, plants, and people interact.
Above all, we will explore the natural world with curiosity, joy, respect, and gratitude. We hope you will join us. Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions.
